Learn. Laugh. Love. Repeat.

August 10, 2020

This last month we’ve had a network problem due to political instability in Ethiopia. We hope that our connection will be fully restored through August for more updates.

Although things have looked a little different since COVID, we are continuing to learn, laugh, and love big!

We recently held a formal training for the kids and staff members. The Addis kids attended a life skill training conducted by the executive director. The main objective of the training was to create awareness around the common problems that teenagers face. The topics covered during this training session were: life skills (thinking, social and negotiation), communication skills, creating good relationship with others, ways to avoid problems, and other skills they should practice at this age level. During the training there were great discussions, thoughtful questions asked and everyone listened to an informative presentation. It was really interesting to the kids and an overall success.

B Loved Sodo project gave training to the care givers at one of the group homes. The training lasted one day and was conducted by the project director, social workers and project nurse. The purpose of the training was to help care givers understand and be able to measure the holistic child care progress in qualitative and quantitative parameters. This is a picture of the group with the project director after the training was completed.

Recently the Addis children were in need of sandals and pajamas and the Soddo children needed trousers and jackets for the rainy season. We purchased and distributed these items to everyone this month. Look at them sporting their new gear!

We’ve been staying busy doing many activities, reading and studying. One of the Soddo children’s favorite ways to spend their free time is attending music classes. The class is given by the project director. Before we know it we will have kids who can play guitar for B Loved’s choir!

Currently we are working on a summer Plan for the Addis Kids. The head office is trying to arrange a summer schedule in order to use their summer time effectively. Currently we have scheduled for our kids to have an online music class, language class, planting seedlings, going on an Addis tour to visit historical places, and do some creative activities.

They love creating art and all kinds of other projects. This is a photo of Medekios and a “video taking stand” he created!

In order to keep B Loved Ethiopia kids and staff safe and healthy during COVID, some necessary decisions have been made. For the time being, no movement is allowed from group home to group home and any staff who is allowed to enter the group homes must take off their shoes, wear a mask, and wash their hands with soap at the gate of the group home compound. We are continuing to take every precaution and so far we can report that no one within the organization has been sick with the virus.

We pray that all of you are well and think of you often.

Thank you as always for your continued love and support.
