Starting Strong: A New Year at B Loved Ethiopia

October 28, 2024

September arrived, bringing Ethiopian New Year celebrations that united us with traditional foods, laughter, and small gifts.

As the new school year also kicked off, B Loved Ethiopia ensured every child was fully prepared, providing necessary school supplies and registration support across multiple schools. Children from the Sodo community began attending Hopeful Generation, Bezalel, and Lika Academy, with some new students like Netsanet and Selamu joining Bezalel Academy. Some of the older children took on leadership roles, like Yonatan, who facilitated his younger sibling’s registration.

Beyond academics, the children enjoyed time together at the Sodo center, engaging in activities like swimming, soccer, and gaming on the PlayStation. Through responsibilities like cooking and caring for their younger siblings, they built valuable life skills and confidence.

Jeff and Cindy, visiting from the U.S., brought encouraging letters, supplies, and warmth. They engaged with the children and attended a worship service at Sar Bete Full Gospel Church, further strengthening the community bond. They also advised older students on academic and career planning.

In September, Sodo’s soccer field saw grass planting progress, enhancing the community space despite budget challenges.

We are excited for the addition of health worker, Mr. Bernabas Paulos, who now ensures better healthcare for the children.

In Bishoftu, all school supplies, including uniforms were provided. During summer, students developed communication and Bible study skills, earning certificates. The New Year festivities in Bishoftu featured traditional meals, songs, and was a good time for all. Jeff and Cindy, brought thoughtful gifts, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their visit.

B Loved’s Bishoftu project launched a beekeeping initiative with ten hives, promoting income generation and access to nutritious honey. This complements the agricultural efforts, where alfalfa and maize crops will support sustainable feeding practices for the children. It's been a great learning experience and we are happy with the progress thus far.

With your help, B Loved Ethiopia continues to build a supportive, joyful environment for children to grow, learn, and thrive. Thank you for coming along on this journey with us!
