The Work of God

March 9, 2020

February was a busy month for the B Loved Ethiopia family!

All the children have completed the first semester of school and have started strong in the second semester. Based on the results from their work so far, feedback will be given to each child to help improve in the third quarter. Their tutorial classes are going well, and some improvements are being seen in some of the more challenging areas such as Physics and Mathematics.

We are trying a new tutorial system with the kids in Addis Ababa in hopes that it will help them acquire better study skills, minimize dependency on tutorial teachers, progress in their academics and ultimately achieve better results.

We continuously work to help boost the children’s confidence and develop their self-esteem. B Loved children were encouraged to socialize with other children in the community, while being aware to not be influenced by negative peer pressures. Sodo children played soccer and spent time every weekend with their community peers at the B Loved Ethiopia Holistic Center and we believe this practice will help them to develop their social skills outside of their B Loved family.

Our staff works as a team to help the children have a disciplined lifestyle. They were given moral education from biblical teaching and were also reminded to follow the positive cultural values of the community in which they live like respecting older people, helping the needy, obeying moms and other authority figures.

The B Loved Addis Ababa children were also taught Bible lessons every weekend by a minister assigned by the church named, Evangelist Cherenet.

Most of the kids spent the beautiful weekends this month at the Holistic Center and played soccer, learned music, attended the library, and practiced their English reading skills. The older kids regularly attend a guitar tutor by the project director.

We had a lot going on this past month, but the highlight was our visit from the HighRidge Mission team!

HighRidge Church Mission Trip

A mission team of twenty people from Texas came to Ethiopia, Sodo to visit the children and share God’s love. This amazing team usually comes two times a year to support and encourage the work B Loved is doing in Ethiopia. The team was able to spend over a week with us from Feb 2 - 11, 2020 and we fit in as much activity with them as we possibly could.

During their trip the team visited 7 group homes (5 in Sodo & 2 in Addis). The children introduced themselves to new faces and then presented Bible quotations, sang songs, and had so much fun visiting with their guests.

Women’s Conference

The mission team conducted a women’s conference that aimed to equip women in their leadership skills at home and in the community. More than 250 women from the Sodo community attended the conference and were trained by the Texas team. One of the team members gave their life testimony to the older children in attendance. It was so powerful to see the impact this conference had on everyone involved.

Visiting the Blind

The team visited a Blind school nearby and spent good, quality time with the blind children in the school compound and talking to the school’s directors. It was a humbling experience for all and meant so much to the children.

GOAL!!

For fun, the older boys grouped into two teams (Addis and Sodo) and had a football match. The winner of the match then played with foreign staff and in both matches, the Sodo team was the winner! It was a great time and fun for everyone to watch!

Praying Over Future Group Homes

The mission team had an opportunity to visit the new land that was given to B Loved to construct the remaining two Group homes and prayed on it for God’s help and blessing.

Thank you!

Shoes and other gifts were donated to all 57 of the B Loved children by the mission team. The kids were so excited and thankful for the donors continued generosity.

It’s safe to say that the impact of the mission team was huge, and we love when they visit and minister to B Loved children, staff and the community in so many ways. They shared their God given gifts through teaching the word of God, testimony, prayers and encouragement. It is always a great opportunity to spend time with the mission team and see the work of God in every moment they are with us.

If you would like to help us grow the B Loved family, you can do so by donating to our Group Home fund so that we can build more loving homes for orphaned kids in Ethiopia.
